Pullbacks that hug the average
Moving-average pullback reading in technical analysis training—constructive hugs versus rolls without trend confirmation.
Price that rides along a rising average looks orderly. It can also be a slow distribution that never produces a confirmation close.
Constructive hug
In a constructive hug, pullbacks are shallow relative to the prior impulse, the average keeps a measurable upward slope, and breaks away from the average resume with closes that expand in the trend direction. Participants mark both the slope and the expansion close before calling confirmation.
Slow roll
In a slow roll, the average’s slope decays while price still “respects” it from above. Each bounce is shorter. Waiting for a dramatic cross late in the roll often means confirmation was already unavailable days earlier.
Homework cue
On five daily charts, label each average contact as hug or roll using slope change across ten bars. Compare labels with a partner if you are in a workshop cohort. Disagreement is useful; unresolved disagreement means the confirmation sentence is not ready.
